Kitchen Inspiration

During the week, my fingers itch to be at the our house, doing something... anything to get us closer to moving in... I just can't wait! (You can only spend so much time on Pinterest, ya know!?) So today I'm going to share some of my ideas for our kitchen, arguably the part of the house I am most excited for.

The kitchen is actually the one room that I have been pretty solid on design wise, meaning, I have known what I've wanted from the very beginning and not much has changed. I did go back and forth a little bit as far as cabinet colors but in the end, we are going with my original idea, which is two-toned. But overall, I've stuck with a style that is, what I call, "modern country"... but in reality, it's just a jumble of a whole bunch of different ideas that I like.

So this kitchen does a very good job of portraying the overall style and feeling that I am going for but it also shows the two-tone cabinet style... which also just so happens to show the colors I will be using, white on top and gray on bottom (actually, these cabinets are the exact color gray I am going with, which is Annie Sloan chalk paint, in French Linen). The only thing that is missing is butcher block counter tops!

This kitchen does have butcher block counter tops, and in a shade of stain that I like, although I might decide to go a tiny bit darker with ours. This one also gives an idea of how our farmhouse style sink will look like against the gray lower cabinets.

One project that I already wrote about was raising the upper cabinets up to the ceiling and then adding open shelving below them for extra storage space. I plan to use wood shelves and stain them to match the counter tops and then use galvanized pipe as shelf supports... I may or may not spray paint the pipe with a black finish. Here are a few shots that might look similar to our final outcome...

Should be a similar look, just no pipe on this one
I think this shot is of a counter top but this will be
similar to how the open shelving will be supported

Next up, more open shelving... so we removed the corner cabinet that was to the left of the kitchen sink and I plan to replace that with 3 shelves... haven't decided whether or not they will just be straight, against the wall with the window, or L shaped to follow the wall. Below is the best shot of that area, I'll add a better picture later...

So anyway, keeping with the wood and pipe theme, here are a few that, if combined, would make my perfect shelves...

Another thing we are thinking about doing is adding some sort of shelving over the fridge, just to add storage space... here are a few ideas I like...

So those are just a few things we'd like to do and I can't wait to start my next project, which will be the cabinets! This next weekend is going to be a doozy, we've got appliances being delivered, the beginnings of fencing, and possibly a bathroom being demoed, so the next post will be a fun one!

  1. You gotta love a kitchen with butcher block countertops! It's a distinctiveness towards the modern look every kitchen seems to have these days. Anyway, I love what you have in store for the kitchen, as open shelvings are never a bad idea. I do hope you send more pictures our way though. Thanks for sharing and best of luck with the renovation! :)
