Not Much Longer...

After this weekend, we are definitely in the final stretch before "moving in". I put that in quotes because it will probably take a while longer to actually start moving all of our possessions into the house, but I consider being able to sleep and bathe in our new house "moved in".

We've been living without a whole boat load of our "stuff" for about 5 months now (in fact, all of our junk is taking up the space where a large boat was once stored!) so we are pretty used to getting by with the bare essentials. Our kitchen wont be finished for at least a few more weeks, but we are hoping that finally being able to stay at the house will expedite the schedule!

Early this week, my dad and friend, Derk, finished up setting our tub and pouring mortar underneath it. My dad also filled in the toilet plumbing hole with cement and and finished getting the bathroom ready for drywall and texture...

...and that freed up our friend, Chad, to come in, patch up all of our drywall, mud, tape and texture! (Yes, the photos are terrible, I forgot my camera this weekend and only had my phone!)

Tub, after texture
New texture behind the stove (below is a photo of the fireplace area before)
There was a ton of glue the once held something to the wall behind the stove
New texture next to the tub
Remember, there used to be a door there!

This Saturday, after another awesome breakfast at Mikes Cafe, we headed to the house early and got a lot done before we had to go to our friends house to watch the fights. To be honest, I didn't do much actually, James and Colt had to use our only saw horses all day and since I usually use them for painting, I just decided to give my back a rest that day!

Anyway, the boys were able to finish a lot of our electrical outlets and switch over to GFI's in the kitchen and bathroom. They also cut holes in the wainscoting for our laundry room and glued it all up... not going to lie, it was fun watching the guys use all the cool, fan-dangled tools of the trade. (We bought a Dremel this weekend and I am so excited to use it more!)

And lastly, we finally got to open up our counter tops and start attacking them. The guys ripped off the rest of the counters and did some screwing together of the some of the cabinets. They did a great job of making all of the cabinets flush and secure.

Then finally, we started the "measuring out" process for the counter tops, before cutting... we got a general idea of how we are going to attack them ;) More measuring and cutting coming soon, but we were able to throw up one of the slabs and it gave us a pretty good idea of what it was going to look like! (They will be a little darker after sealing, though) I can't wait!!

There is so much more getting done this week... Tuesday we will actually be cutting the counters (and hopefully I can also throw on the first coat of Waterlox). Tuesday is also the first day that our tiler will be working on the bathroom, my mom is going to start painting our ceilings, our brand-spankin-new windows are getting put in on Thursday and finally on Saturday, we are having our alarm system installed. I think I also have to squeeze in painting the bathroom walls between whenever the tile guy finishes and the weekend because my dad is going to install our new sink and toilet! There's a lot being squeezed in in the next few days but after this weekend, the house will actually be move-in-able!

And per the usual, our weekly home-makeover-heroes are: My dad and Derk, Colt, Kyla and Ryan! Thanks guys!
