We revisited Mexico to celebrate our two year wedding anniversary and had an amazing time in the little town.
Tulum's hotel zone is a very eco-friendly, shabby chic part of Quintana Roo, located an hour and a half or so South of the Cancun airport. Most of the hotel don't offer air conditioning and you can't flush toilet paper. Almost everything is run off of solar power and at night, most of the restaurant are lit solely by candles. Yoga and fresh squeezed green juice are everywhere and there is even a spot that offers kombucha! There is a definite laid back, hipster vibe happening and the town is on the brink of becoming touristy, but going during the off season still gave us a "hidden gem" vibe.
Without going into to much detail, I just want to throw it out there that if Tulum sounds like your style, you should definitely give it a shot before it gets "too cool for school". Everything in open air, almost every meal we ate there was less than 100 feet from the beach and the food and drinks here were phenomenal. Literally everywhere we ate offered the freshest seafood presented in ways that looked like it came from a 5 star restaurant. The drinks were also the freshest I've ever had, even basic margaritas were over the top good!
We snorkeled for hours, visited cenotes, rented a scooter and drove it around town, drank many tequila shots, rode bikes on a zip line above the jungle, watched some awesome bands perform, sweated a TON (it was VERY humid), went fishing and I even caught my first baraccuda!
I tried to collect as many photos of our trip as I could and I came up with a combination of the few pics we snapped on my camera, our phones and our gopro. I could have taken so many more pictures of our adventures but I wasn't even thinking about it half the time, Tulum really makes you slow down... there is even a sign on the road that states "Stay Present". So here are some shots of our trip that we were so grateful to be able to go on...
